The speculation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The mystery has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing suggests that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, player agency, and deep class systems—traits that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs only possible with a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also notoriously flexible, enabling players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be approached in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.
