Officers reported they were alerted by a man who found a vehicle in Hanau covered with red-colored fluid

Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.

Police report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.

The fluid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they stated.

Police then discovered many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.

Law enforcement report preliminary tests indicate the substance was most likely human blood.

"There is still no lead as to its source; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in relation with the incident," they added.

Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have requested to the community for information.

A high-ranking political figure stated the vandalism made him speechless and required to be addressed rapidly.

"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a assailant aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
